Shortly after speaking to J.B. I saw Pat sitting on the blue, plastic chairs in front of the dryers. She was reading The Scarlet Letter, the classic by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Like myself, Pat had never read the novel. She's got one on me, though, because she's actually making her way through it and I have yet to start. Some day...
Thoughts on the book so far? "Oh I like it. I find it interesting and well-written. Even though it was written many many years ago the story is still fascinating. Classics truly transcend through time."
Being my first Kindle interview I could not help but salivate at this moment! Pat actually owns a Kindle 2 which she got in February of this year when it came out. She's an avid reader and often travels for work and commutes by train. She'd always carry around a library book and get through a book a week. When she found herself finishing a book whilst en route she'd be left stranded with nothing else to read. "I'm not going to lie. I was a bit hesitant to get a Kindle. It was weird at first because I missed the feel of turning the pages. But I love that it is small, not heavy at all...and I was impressed at how everything on the screen looked like actual print on paper. I don't regret the purchase at all and it comes in handy." Aside from the device's sheer convenience in her travels and commuter lifestyle Pat loves that she can readily access a dictionary. "I'll encounter a word I don't know and I can look it up with ease! I've also been downloading books left and right!" Kind of like how I've been with my iPhone apps.

Pat's current favourite books belong to Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series. She's already read 4 out of the 6 books. "I enjoy the historical fiction and time-traveling element."
Growing up she enjoyed reading all the time. "I read anything I could get my hands on...from the encyclopedia to magazines. I lived in a rural town in Central California and every summer I'd look forward to the book mobile that came into town. It would show up every 2 weeks so I'd stock up on books and then return them when the book mobile came back. Them I'd trade them in for my next batch. It was great...a library on wheels!" During the off season and later on when she grew up she would make her way to the library every week. Hearing her tell me all this made me all warm inside. It all sounded so romantic! I wish we had a book mobile stop by but I did remember ordering books through the Scholastic program. I still have some of the random books I ordered sitting on one of my shelves. Evidence of my randomness below:

If Pat were to write her own book it would be a fantasy novel because she is such a big fan of the genre. "...and my book would have elves and fairies."

I bought the Sony Reader for the same reason. I would always bring a ton of books with my on holidays. I love my Sony reader and I use it a lot. However, I do buy books as well. I can't stop buying them, I love the shopping experience.
