I'll Stop The World and Melt with You

One of the worst days to have to deal with during this much delayed Los Angeles heat wave is "Laundry Day". Million degree weather + million degree dryers = WHY?!?

Suffering along with me was Kay. I spotted her starting the first book in the Hunger Games series. She was just a few pages in but can't get enough of what she's read so far. "I got the book because I know they are making the movie. It's not coming out any time soon, though, so I've got time. I think they are still deciding on the actors..."

Kay typically reads "romantic" and "funny" books. She soon hints that she is about 15 years old so it was a bit difficult for me to picture her picking up a book with Fabio on the cover. Maybe she meant a book that includes a romantic plot. I didn't want to pry any further but did ask what other books she was into. She tells me that she is big into spies and adventure books. This is where I discovered the likes of the Gallagher Girls series! "The book is about girls who are around my age, probably 15 or 16. They have exceptional skills and talents, and are sent off to a special school - a spy school."

Color me curious! I just looked these books up a few minutes ago and encountered titles such as:
"Only The Good Spy Young", "I'd Tell You That I Love You, But I'd Have to Kill You", and "Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy". The book covers showcase teenage girls donning Catholic school girl uniforms. To borrow a title from the series, "Don't Judge A Girl By Her Cover", I suppose I shouldn't. But I can't help but giggle a bit. Hey, I read every Babysitters Club Book so if this is equivalent to those then I can't knock 'em. Kids are reading and that is swell in my book.

Something that I did not expect was when Kay told me that she absolutely LOVES Chuck Palahniuk. She saw the movie, "Choke", and thoroughly enjoyed it, so she got a copy of the book. This has led to a newfound love for the author resulting in her purchasing every single one of his works! That's love. <3 face="courier new">Have you gone out and bought every single book by a particular author? In one fell swoop? Do tell!

I have bought every book that writer Melanie Rae Thon has wrote. I do want every book by John Steinbeck and Sherman Alexie. How about you, Liza? Is there a writer whose life work you want to own?

I don't think I own EVERY book by one particular author however I do own a majority of Virginia Woolf's books. (I love her and went through a phase for many years where I would re-read Mrs. Dalloway every 6 months/1 year). I would also love to have every book by John Fante and Murakami. OH, I do have every Scott Pilgrim comic book :)
